Poem & Du’aa: Rethinking Death

And as I sit there learning how-
How to detect if a person is actually dead
How to comfort the dying person
How to wash their body
How to bury them
How to pray on them
How to comfort the grieving family
How to comfort myself
I rethink- death
How inevitable it is
How unreal but real it is
It didn’t hit me until I actually imagined holding someone from my family in my hand- dead
Until I actually pictured myself laying still, no pulse, motionless
And then I started breathing- heavily
There would be no turning back- no more second chances
