The day of Judgement

The day of Judgement
In the light of Juz ‘Amma
As we studied the 30th Juz, we came to realize that its main focus is on the Qiyyamah, the day when we will stand in front of our Lord to answer for everything that we have done in this world.  Qiyyamah will be the harshest day that any soul will ever witness. On this day, the only concern will be “Nafsi,” “Myself”. It will be such a day that people will neglect their own prized possessions.
This back-breaking day, will begin with a …

Lessons from Surah Ma’un

Lessons from Surah Ma’un
This surah is beautiful in its simplicity and straight-forwardness. Allah describes the characteristics of a disbeliever and hypocrite in a mere six ayat, but at the same time manages to remind the muslims as well. In these ayat is a command from Allah to provide social services, but also a greater command against hypocrisy. At first glance, we may deem that this surah is only meant for the kafir. But quickly, we come to the realization that this surah is a subtle, yet effective reminder for …

Do You Truly Understand Your Lord?

How often do we belittle Surah Ikhlaas thinking that it is just something small for children to memorize? This surah is actually equal to a whole third of the Qur’an. We might ask ourselves how this surah could possibly make up that much when it is only made up of four short ayat. The Qur’an is divided into three main categories: Tawheed, Ahkam (rulings), and stories. Surah Ikhlaas does a quick summary on the Tawheed category of the Qur’an because it gives us information about Allah.
What is the story behind …

The Reading Lamp

The Reading Lamp
Importance of T a f s e e r
Allah azza wa jal says in the Qur’an,
“(This is) a Book which We have sent down to you, full of blessings, so that they may ponder* over its verses, and that men of understanding may remember.” [38:29]
It is the science of tafseer which is the fruit of ‘pondering over its verses’. Tafseer comes from the root letters fa seen ra, or fassara and means to explain, to discover, elucidate, to disclose (a hidden thing), …

Last night in Taraweeh, the shaykh recited:

“His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, “Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?”

{Surat al-Kahf: 18:37}

Subhannallah! This surah is well known and read very much, but for some reason hearing it from someone else was something different. It was touching to hear these words “Akafarta billathi Khalaqaq”. It felt …

Allaah says ,

“Have they not observed things that Allah has created, (how) their shadows incline to the right and to the left, making prostration unto Allah, and they are lowly?”

{Surah an-Nahl 16:48}

Allaah informs us about His might, majesty and pride. All things submit themselves to Him and every created being – animate and inanimate, as well as the responsible – humans and jinns, and the angels – all humble themselves before …

I was thinking of this beautiful ayah (about Aasiyah bint Muzahim) today. It has always been one of my many favorites:

“And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe: the wife of

Fir`awn, when she said: “My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise,

and save me from Fir`awn and his work, and save me from the people who are

wrongdoers”

{Surah at-Tahrim 66:11}

SubhanAllah, even …

“O believers! What is the matter with you that when you are asked to march

forth in the way of Allah, you cling to the earth? Do you

prefer the life of this world to the life of the hereafter? If it is so, then you should know

that the comforts of this life are little compared to the life of the hereafter”
