In some countries and societies around the world, female newborns are disrespected and less favored than males. This custom of considering girls as inferior is not new, rather it has been going on for thousands of years. For centuries, women have been physically and mentally tortured. In the time of jahiliyya, for example, people became unhappy when they heard the news of a newborn girl. Allah mentions this in the Quran,
“And when one of them is informed of the birth of a female, his face becomes dark, …

Being a guy, I have to admit it was kind of weird going to a fiqh class on women. When I was telling my friends about it, they all were very hesitant to come and most didn’t come. I have to say, they made a BIG mistake! This class was one of the most important decisions of my life. Shaykh Waleed Basyouni broke down the complicated fiqh issues of women in a simple and understandable manner. After taking the class, I feel confident in my knowledge of …

Confidential is definitely an amazing, beneficial class that I would recommend for everyone. We spent an entire weekend studying the book of Allah, learning its gems and practicality. It was amazing to see how much depth and knowledge can be learned from Surat’l-Nur. The Surah gives major rulings as well as minor but important rulings. It was really interesting to see some of the transitions in the Surah and the different themes it touches upon. It is a surah packed with a lot of fiqh rulings …

My favorite ayahs in Surat’l-Nur are verses 30 and 31. In these ayahs, Allah (exalted is He) says:
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze, and protect their private parts. That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All Aware of what you do. And tell the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty…” [Quran, 24:30-31]
These ayahs clarify for the believing men and women how they should behave. There are many benefits of lowering your gaze. One benefit mentioned by Ibn Qayyim …

SubhanAllah, Confidential was an amazing class, as I’ve come to realize that all Al-Maghrib classes are amazing in their own ways. For this class, what I found so subhanAllah walhamdullilah waAllahu akbar-ish was the respect, decency and common courteousness that Muslims afforded one another and that were established in Surat’l-Nur. I read through the Surah only once before the class and I did not pay as much attention to the manners that this surah calls for. Because of this, I did not realize the amount of respect …

A shadow chase

Allah subhanawat’Ala beautifully reminds, “seek through that which Allah has given you, the home of the hereafter, (yet) do not forget your share of the hereafter.”

The last class entitled The Last Breath offered by Al Maghrib Institute was a very great experience for me. First, the fact that I was surrounded by very dedicated students of knowledge and a very knowledgeable scholar mashAllah made me feel at home.  I felt like the classroom was meant to be my real home and the people around me were my real brothers and sisters. I did not want the seminar to end because of the comfort, inner peace and tranquility I felt in that atmosphere. I had never in my …

When I wrote my first article in Tayybah Times after I took the ‘Fiqh of Salah’ class then I thought  If I would get another chance then I would write another article and  here I am writing my second article.
The important lessons I have learned from the ‘Fiqh of death’ class are the following:
When people die they go through many difficulties. Sometimes we make comment that if a person suffers a lot before die then because that person did such and such bad things and that’s why he was suffering. …

The Last Breath: The Fiqh of Death & Inheritance was a phenomenal seminar –a must take for every Muslim but especially students of knowledge.  It was said by our beloved Rasool (saw) that “The first of branch of knowledge which will be taken away from my Ummah will be Illmul Faraidh (the knowledge pertaining to inheritance).”  As you can see currently the extinction of this knowledge, many of us are severely unaware of the importance and benefits of the science of inheritance nor are we are aware of the consequences …
