As Christians around the world are celebrating “Good Friday”, it’s noteworthy to shed some light on this event and maybe spread some knowledge to those who don’t know much about it.

Today’s holiday, Good Friday, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, his death at Calvary, and his resurrection from the grave.

For those who worship Jesus, I have a few questions that I hope you can answer for me. Rather, it is an invitation to think, reflect and ponder.

Your One and Only Lord says in His only book that is miraculously preserved:

The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth… (Quran 5:75)

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, “Be,” and he was.

(Qu’an 3:59)

And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son.”   You have done an atrocious thing. The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation, That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son. And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son. There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting. And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone. (Qur’an 19:88-95)

Know that your Lord,

Allah – there is none worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. (Qur’an 3:2)

And that He,

He calls upon you that He may forgive you of your sins. (Qur’an 14:10)

Friday is still a “good day”. Rather, an amaZing day! Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said: “The best day on which the sun rises is Friday” (Muslim). He also said, “…in it there is a time when a person does not ask Allaah for anything but He gives it to him, so long as he does not ask for anything forbidden…” (Ibn Majah)

So what are you waiting for? Return to your Lord, ask Him for His guidance and forgiveness, and ask Him to shower us with His mercy and compassion.

Don’t forget to do the following:

  • Take a bath, put on good clothing and (men only) cologne
  • Attend Friday prayer and listen attentively
  • Read Surah Al-Kahf and ask Allaah swt to grant you “noor” until next Friday
  • Send peace and blessings upon the prophet (pbuh)
  • Make du’aa for yourself and family members
  • Make du’aa for all the muslims (and me!)
  • Make du’aa that Allaah swt preserves alMasjid Al-Aqsa
  • Do acts that will spread peace and happiness to those around you
