Fiqh of Chillin’: Entertainment & Recreation in Islam

December 2012…Tayybah held its last class of the year in the heart of the Big Apple welcoming, for the first time ever, Sh. Saad Tasleem. With the venue reaching its full capacity and selling out, Tayybah had to skip its traditional free Friday.

This seminar shattered myths, cleared up misconceptions, and emphasized moderation and balance in life as keys to success. The rulings on music and drugs were studied in depth, contemporary issues pertaining to social media, online modesty, and pop culture were delved into, and sports and fitness in Islam were discussed. It was a life changing seminar and a much needed reminder on the importance of practicing the knowledge we learn.
Fiqh of Chillin’ lived up to its name and became an unforgettable experience. A heart warming poetry contest, Tetris GEM boards, corny jokes, halaal pranks, and students rocking Q.T. shades were but some of the highlights of the seminar. Accompanying all this fun though was the reminder that nothing should be taken for granted.

Sadly, the well-spent fun-filled weekend was fast coming to a close…but of course being the qabeelah known for its coolness we couldn’t let Sh. Saad leave without a touch of Tayybah. He was presented with a gangsta graffiti-ed hoodie as a token of our appreciation along with our signature engraved USB given to all our beloved Shuyookh…

Memorable Moment

A brother’s phone goes off in class, Sh. Saad had forewarned us that he won’t be responsible for the consequences of this, so he takes the brother’s iPhone and proceeds to throw it in his cup of water!
“Shall I? Shall I not?” the Shaykh hesitated.
BAM! He dropped the phone in the water!!
Everyone is in shock! What did the instructor just do??
The brother then puts his hand up with his real iPhone…
Sh. Saad played us demonstrating how a halaal prank is done!

Because we are a hi-tech generation and because the PPN team wants to make learning convenient for everyone, we’ve created an additional version of FOC-PPN that’s compatible with Kindle, Nook, and other e-readers. Enjoy!

Should we continue making e-reader versions of PPN for future seminars?
